Luxury Safari: Ngorongoro, Lake Natron & Serengeti Migration in 7 Days
Explore Tanzania’s wildest landscapes, from flamingo-filled salt flats to predator-rich savannahs. This safari runs July–October to combine two natural wonders: flamingos at Lake Natron and the Great Migration at the Mara River.
Spend two nights at Lake Natron, then two nights in Northern Serengeti’s Kogatende near the Mara River for dramatic river crossings. A night in Central Serengeti offers a different perspective, before ending at the Ngorongoro Crater rim, home to stunning views and abundant wildlife.
A taste of what to expect…
Day 1 - Arrival
The group arrives at Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO). Participants are met by a company representative and transferred to a hotel in Arusha.
Day 2 - Lake Natron
Spend the day at Lake Natron, a remote and stunning location often featured in wildlife magazines. The lake’s red-hued water, caused by special bacteria, can be best seen from above. The surrounding landscapes are home to ostriches, antelopes, zebras, and giraffes, yet few tourists visit due to its remoteness making it a perfect start or end to your northern Tanzania safari.
It can be hot during the day, and you may swim in nearby springs fed by pure, sulfur-rich water from the Ngorongoro slopes.
Local Maasai communities live around the lake, and you can visit their settlements to learn about their traditional way of life.
Day 3 - Lake Natron
Lake Natron is home to beautiful birds, including large numbers of flamingos — sometimes tens of thousands at once. Watching the brilliant pink birds take flight is truly spectacular. Flamingos favor this lake because its highly alkaline waters protect them from predators. From September to April, over three quarters of the world’s Lesser Flamingos are born here, nesting in shallow mud and hatching along the shore. Through binoculars, you can spot tiny gray chicks just beginning to walk, soon turning pink.
The area is also inhabited by pelicans and other birds, which display their natural, playful behavior in the wild.
Day 4 - Serengeti National Park — Kogatende
Kogatende is in the northeastern Serengeti, a remote area with abundant wildlife and stunning panoramic views. Its seclusion means fewer tourists, making for a quiet, exclusive safari experience.
Many African antelope species live here, including dik-diks, wildebeests, kudu, and impalas, and your guide will share insights about each. Large herds of giraffes, zebras, and buffaloes are also drawn to the nearby Mara River, offering excellent opportunities for close-up photography.
Day 5 - Serengeti National Park — Kogatende
The Mara River flows through Kogatende, forming a natural border between Serengeti and Kenya’s Masai Mara. Here, hundreds of thousands of wildebeest, zebras, and other grazing animals cross during the annual Great Migration, typically from mid-July to late August. This spectacular event attracts wildlife filmmakers from around the world and is one reason Serengeti is a World Heritage Site.
Your guide will share insights about the migration, highlighting the important relationship between the wildlife and East Africa’s landscapes.
Day 6 - Serengeti National Park — Seronera
Today you’ll leave Northern Serengeti and drive to Seronera, the central part of the park. The journey takes about 2.5–3 hours, but the day can be adjusted to your preferences. You may linger in Kogatende for a final river crossing or depart earlier to explore central Serengeti.
Seronera is known for year-round wildlife and is one of the best places to see lions, cheetahs, elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, and more. Its landscapes inspired The Lion King, offering a raw, wild, and unforgettable safari experience.
Day 7 - Serengeti National Park — Seronera
Today you’ll explore the central Serengeti around Seronera, a vast area teeming with wildlife. Your guide will take you to new locations and introduce you to interesting animals, giving you a full perspective of the park.
Seronera is home to some of Africa’s rarest species, including rhinos, leopards, serval cats, and caracals, increasing your chances of spotting them in the wild.
Day 8 - Ngorongoro Conservation Area
Today you’ll visit the Ngorongoro Crater, part of the UNESCO-listed Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Early in the morning, your guide will drive you to the crater, descending through lush forests with a stop at a lookout for panoramic views.
The crater is home to abundant wildlife, including elephants, buffaloes, antelopes, lions, cheetahs, zebras, and rare rhinos. Giraffes are absent, as they cannot navigate the steep slopes.
During the game drive, enjoy a picnic at Lake Magadi, where hippos and birds, including kites, can often be seen. The area offers one of Africa’s richest wildlife experiences in a stunning volcanic landscape.
